It says Dolby pro logic II, isn't it suppose to be surround sound? But there is no sound come out from my rear speakers. I got Wii version, what's wrong?

I've experienced this same issue. Just to make sure it wasn't my audio connection, I put in Metroid Prime 3 and Zelda and they both sounded perfectly fine on my Dolby ProLogic speaker system. I put GHIII back in and the sound only seems to come out of the center speaker when I'm playing a song. I hope they didn't mess up the Wii version of GHIII by forgeting to check the stereo button before shipping. I've played both GHI and GHII on the PS2 they both had excellent sound.
my xbox360 version sounds fine with surround sound.
I will confirm that I played the 360 version on my speaker setup and it sounded great. I know that the 360 is a more powerful console but the Wii is capable of Dolby Prologic II which sounds pretty good. GHIII on the Wii doesn't seem to be able to output stereo sound at the very least.
I have noticed the lack of the advertised ProLogic II sound as well, and I am also on Wii. It sounds like that may be the only affected platform. I too was able to verify the problem using the Twilight Princess disc as a control to ensure my A/V receiver and Wii console were configured correctly to handle the output.
The in-song play on GH3 for Wii is most definitely not using any ProLogic decoding. In fact, it isn't even stereo! It's the same monoaural signal being passed to each channel, and like Bumbolio I only get good sound out of the center channel. As bad as this issue is in single-player modes, it's a total deal breaker in multiplayer.
This is a really discouraging problem for a game centered around music to have. I haven't heard of any downloadable updates to individual games being released on Wii (only system firmware updates), but I really hope there is some infrastructure in place to deliver them. Compared to some of the other minor gripes being posted in this forum, this issue is a game ruining oversight. And the fact that only Wii owners seem to have been screwed by it really adds insult to injury.
I agree with Beelzebozo. I'm almost willing to return the game and just wait until I can purchase a 360 but I don't know when that will be. The only other console I own is a PS2 and there is no online functionality for that console in GHIII (and no guarantee that they implemented ProLogic II).
so glad that someone posted about this. what a horrible thing to have happen. mine, as well, is only coming out the center channel. getting surround is only possible if i fake it through my receiver. it seems to me that i can get stereo out of it, but i have no clue if it is faked, or true stereo. as i have the wii version, i have no second guitar, therefore no way to play multiplayer, therefore no way to check. stupid activision releasing a buggy product.
Does anyone notice that the sound gets very faint when playing face-off when it gets to your guitar part (left speaker)?

It's a relief to hear I'm not the only one experiencing this issue...and that I'm not the only one completely p.o.'d by it!
Is there anyone out there who isn't having this problem on their Wii?
mdouet: This could be a problem with the wii not outputting the sound for the left channel correctly and therefore ruining surround sound. I'm going to test out multiplayer with two guitars sometime within the next two days. I really want to know if they at least seperated out the guitar part from the lead/bass part in mutiplayer.
Bumbolio, just play a face-off match online to see what I mean.

I'll give face-off a try when I get home tonight. Thanks.
honestly i didnt notice weather or not my sound was coming out of my rear speakers, but to be honest i don't really think it's that big of a deal, but i will check it out later and let you guys know if i'm having that issue as well.
Often I can look past bugs in games. I know that I'm spoiled because I'm a Nintendo fanboy, and they rarely put out buggy products. However, having the sound for a game that is based in music, that has the sound for the multi-player based on stereo, only come out of the center channel and possibly not even having the option of the sound being split stereo properly, is a major drag. It is more than a drag, but a hindrance to the gameplay. I've currently got a call into tech support trying to find out more about it. For now we just have to hope that more people kieep posting about it, so the issue is validated.
Same issue here. All sound except for center channel is completely cut in the game... no front or rear sound, period.
It's definitely just the game itself-- if I press the "Home" button to edit Wii controller options, all the sounds from that menu screen properly play across all of my speakers. As soon as I leave that menu though, all further sound from GH3 cuts out from the rear speakers.
For a game that is based off of sound and music, this is not a fun bug. I don't know if there is any way to patch a Wii game via downloading data to a saved game block... if there is such a thing, this really should be fixed ASAP.
The Wii isn't capable of true surround sound since it doesn't have an optical audio port, it has stereo outputs. I don't see what you were looking forward to with Dolby Pro Logic II anyways, its simulated surround sound. If you have a receiver to plug your Wii into it usually has the option to make it Dolby Pro Logic II for you. You can get true Dolby Digital surround through the 360 and PS3 versions, and I'm not sure about the PS2 its been ages since I've had one and I forget if it has optical outputs.
I only get sound from the center channel as well when i set my Wii to Surround sound. Definitely a problem with the game. I really hope they fix this.
Hankmallon: while your message is technically correct, we are talking about a problem with the Dolby Pro Logic II surround sound with the Wii. I would assume that people posting here know that it's not true surround sound like Dolby Digital.
edit: i have sent a support question to Activision. Will update when i have a response...
With basic Dolby ProLogic II you can get a 5-6 discrete channels out of a stereo signal. It doesn't sound as good as Dolby Digital, but it is infact in surround sound.

Really this is beside the point, since I would be content with just getting stereo sound out of GHIII on the wii, let alone surround sound.
For technical purposes, just in case this is receiver specific or anything silly like that, I am using a Denon AVR-1707.
For the time being, if I switch into "5 Channel Stereo", it basically duplicates what plays out of the center channel on all my speakers, so I can at least get sound from all sources.
As DiscoJT said-- is there anyone who does not have this problem? I'm really curious if this is happening to everyone or if it's just some sort of conflict with certain receivers.
LifeBane: Even by setting the wii to stereo mode, and plugging it in to a regular set of stereo speakers, you still get the same sound from both the left and right channels.
Bumbolio: IIRC in multiplayer matches the sound for each player comes out of the relative speaker. Are you saying that this does not work because of the bug?
Update: I called in to the tech support line and spoke with a nice agent there. He looked some information up and found out this has been labeled as a known issue. So, at least this has quickly gotten to the right sources. It's now just a waiting game I guess :)
Great game otherwise though, don't get me wrong!
The instruction manual (which I'm sure most people don't read) says that you should be able to switch between mono and stereo in the Audio options menu. However, "should" is the key word here, as there is no option for that anywhere in any menu. As a complete audio nerd, this is very aggravating and needs to be fixed, especially since, as far as I am aware, I can't return the product now that it is opened.
LifesBane: I have not tried local multiplayer yet, I'm glad to hear that it will actually seperate out the two guitar parts. I was commenting on the single player experience. There seems to be no audio seperation at all of the band sound.
thebigcheese: I saw that in the manual and went to that menu even thought I had already checked it like 5 times before reading the manual. I did not see an option for stereo or mono. I have seen this option in GHII for the PS2, I wonder if it is in the PS2 version of GHIII.
I read that too, and I looked everyone in the audio options but couldn't find the option.
They need to release a patch for this!

Thanks very much to the people who put tech support calls in. Maybe we should attempt to get as many interested Wii players as possible to call tickets in to help give them a sense of the user demaind. That may provide them more motivation to release a patch. Now my biggest worry is that there is no good mechanism for patching the game in this way on the Wii console. I know that personally this is important enough to me that I would be willing to mail in my disc and wait for a patched replacement print. Even if it is on a DVD-R with "GH3" scrawled on it in marker pen it would be worth it.
